Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Doctor’s certificate required to obtain a Portable Oxygen Concentrator?
Technically No.
Medical grade Oxygen is classified as a pharmaceutical drug and requires a prescription. The purity of this product is 99.5%.
Concentrators produce supplementary Oxygen only not medical grade. So technically a concentrator can be sold without a prescription. However, the product needs to be used under the guidance of a clinician. Where there is no prescription provided to you, e.g. web shop sales, use the disclaimer below:
“Oxygen must only be administered in line with the prescription and advice from a qualified medical professional. We encourage you to discuss your device options and device suitability with your prescribing medical practitioner prior to purchase to ensure this device suits your Oxygen requirements. If the product is used or the packaging seals are broken, the device cannot be returned for change of mind or incorrect choice.
Some devices produce Oxygen in a pulse dose which means you receive Oxygen when you breathe in.
Q: Is the Zen-O portable Oxygen concentrator complying with Australia’s TGA regulations?
YES, The Zen-O is fully compliant and registered with TGA and possess ARTG Identifier ARTG 327300.

Q: Is Zen-O suitable for air travel?
Zen-O has been manufactured to high standards and meets the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); this is confirmed by the red text on the back of the device that states
“The manufacturer of this POC has determined this device conforms to all applicable FAA acceptance criteria for POC carriage and use on board aircraft”.
IMPORTANT: Air carriers may require you to bring enough batteries to power the device for at least
150% of the expected maximum flight duration.
Q: Is Zen-O suitable for 24/7 use?

Users also benefit as the device can be used round the clock without the need to switch to an alternative Oxygen delivery system when at home. Patients should seek guidance from their healthcare professional on the suitability of the device for night use.
Q: Is the Zen O CPAP/Bi PAP compatible.
Yes, the Zen O can be used with a CPAP/Bi PAP unit if the continuous oxygen dosage setting you require is within the Zen O’s 2 LPM range. The determining factor of how you will use oxygen with your CPAP/Bi PAP machine is the type of mask and/or tubing you are using.
Q: How much power is required to run a Zen O portable oxygen concentrator?
The Zen O requires a stable 150W of power. It will operate in the 100-240V ac 50-60Hz ranges. It’s designed for home use so the power supply should be of a standard as for other domestic appliances in terms of protection, surges and transients.
Q: What size generator is required to run a Zen O portable oxygen concentrator?
The AC power adapter requirements i.e. 100-240 VAC (+/-10%) 50-60 Hz to give 24VDC 6.25A then you could plug the AC adapter straight in. Allowing for some contingency our suggestion would be a 200 Watts, and a 0.25 kVA rated generator should be sufficient.
Q: What Type of generator is required to run a Zen O?
Inverter generators are recommended for the Zen O portable oxygen concentrators due to their ability to produce cleaner power, which is safer for sensitive medical equipment, and their quieter operation compared to traditional generators
CLINICAL INFORMATION
Q: What is a Bolus?
Bolus means the amount or dose of Oxygen delivered to a patient which is triggered by the breath rate of the patient, when using an Oxygen concentrator operating in pulse mode. Bolus is used interchangeably with Pulse.
Q: What is Rate Responsive Technology?
When in pulse mode Zen-O increases the amount of Oxygen delivered as the patient’s breath rate
increases up to 2 litres per minute. For example, if the patient exerts himself by walking faster than normal, Zen-O will maintain a constant bolus and keep up with the patient’s breath rate (up to 40 breaths per minute). RRT helps keep patients saturated.
Q: What settings do we have on Zen-O?
Zen-O has settings 1 – 6 (with 0.5 increments) in pulse mode, and 0.5 lpm to 2 lpm in continuous mode (0.5 increments). Zen-O offers a total of 11 pulse settings and 4 settings in continuous mode, a total of 15.
Q: What sort of cannula is used for Zen-O?
We recommend that a high flow cannula (up to 15 LPM) such as salter labs 1600HF or 1600soft is used with Zen-O, particularly in pulse mode.
Q: Are the settings in Pulse and Continuous modes the same?
No, the setting in Pulse mode does not equate to the same value in Continuous mode, for example setting 2 in Pulse mode is not the same as 2lpm in continuous mode. Patients must have a setting determined for them by a healthcare professional following an assessment.
Q: How does a patient determine the correct setting on Zen-O?
The correct setting on Zen-O for a patient must be determined by a healthcare professional following an oxygen assessment. The assessment will enable the healthcare professionals determine the best setting required to meet the oxygen needs of the patient.
Q: What is the noise level for both pulse and continuous modes?
• Sound Pressure level of 38 dB(A) at setting 2 in pulse mode.
• Sound Pressure level of 46dBA at setting 6 in pulse mode.
• Sound Pressure level of 52dBA at setting 2 continuous mode.
Q: What is the operating altitude range?
Use of the device at altitudes above 4000 m (13,000 feet) relative to sea level may adversely affect the flowrate and Oxygen concentration supplied.
