BIPAP/ VPAP Overview
There is little that differentiates VPAP from BIPAP machines, as both deliver two positive air pressures through masks. These machines are ideally used for patients who suffer from sleep apnea. The air pressure helps in keeping the airway free from obstruction. BIPAP therapy is an area in which we are well versed.
Upon request, we have a BIPAP specialist who makes house calls, and can educate you on the proper usage of these machines. Below are some of the machines we have:
1. Philips Respironics Dreamstation Auto SV Advanced System One ( humidifier version)
This particular product is one of our most versatile machines. This is because it can be used to treat central sleep apnea, complex sleep apnea and cheyne stokes breathing all at once. It has both spontaneous and timed settings.
BIPAP machines work by delivering two kinds of pressures: one for inhaling, and the other for exhaling. Sometimes, the transition between the two pressures makes it hard for the user to breath normally. This product has an additional Bi-Flex feature that helps make the transition smoother. The machine also comes with software that will allow you to download its usage for up to the previous 7 days. It retails at $3,900.
2. Philips Respironics Dreamstation Auto SV Advanced System One (without humidifier)
This is similar to the first one in that it is also used to treat cheyne stokes, complex sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. Since it is offers two way pressure, it can be timed to provide this pressure at timed intervals, or spontaneously. It also comes with the Bi-Flex feature which helps in making breathing easier.
This machine is specially designed to treat complex respiratory conditions such as MND, Muscular Dystrophy and all conditions that require a specific back up rate to assist you to breath. The AVAP function is designed to provide Average Volume Assured Pressure Support. This is particularly helpful for people with low tidal volume and the machine will provide sufficient levels for their needs. This has a S, ST, PC and T pressure modes
4. Philips Respironics Dreamstation BIPAP St with AVAPS ( No Humidifier) . This machine is the same as number 3 however without the humidification added.
5. Philips Respironics Dreamstation BIPAP Auto (humidifier version)
This product from Philips includes the new heated tube feature. The tube is not included, and retails at an extra $100. Obstructive sleep apnea has just become more manageable thanks to the combined efforts of both Philips and Respironics. The product offers two pressure settings. It costs $2,500.
6. Philips Respironics Dreamstation BIPAP Auto (without humidifier)
This is a machine that comes with a heated tube. Patients can experience increased levels of comfort thanks to the Bi-Flex feature which lets them breathe easier against the pressure. It costs $2,350.
7.Lumis 100 VPAP S – The Lumis 100 VPAP S is designed for those people needing a spontaneous BiPAP machine. It has EPAP pressure for exhalation and IPAP pressure for inhalation and relies on the patient to spontaneous breathe for themselves. This has multiple comfort functions and is available in the new AirSense 10 version with a modern silver look.
8.Lumis 150 VPAP ST – The Lumis 150 VPAP ST is designed for those spontaneous breathers who also require a back up rate. This is required when patient need assistance with their breathing and the machine will pause and determine if spontaneous breathes will be forthcoming. It can be used in spontaneous mode or ST mode and as a major comfort feature.
9.Lumis 150 VPAP STA – The Lumis 150 VPAP ST is designed for those spontaneous breathers who also require a back up rate. This is required when patient need assistance with their breathing and the machine will pause and determine if spontaneous breathes will be forthcoming. It can be used in spontaneous mode or ST mode and as a major comfort feature. This the same as the Lumis 150 VPAP comes with various alarms
10 Aircurve 10 Pace wave – The AirCurve 10 CS PaceWave is an adaptive servo-ventilator specifically designed to treat patients exhibiting central sleep apnea (CSA), mixed sleep apnea and periodic breathing, with or without obstructive sleep apnea. Featuring the most clinically-studied ASV algorithm, AirCurve 10 CS PaceWave is the only adaptive servo-ventilator that targets the patient’s own recent minute ventilation.Authenticity guarantee: All of our ResMed products are sourced directly from ResMed Australia.
11. DeVilbiss Healthcare – Sleep Cube Bilevel S (humidifier version)
This machine is ideal for patients that require high amounts of pressure of up to 25cm. the Sleep Cube Bilevel is versatile and can be used as a BIPAP or CPAP machine. It is extremely quiet, and it does help that this product comes with a three year warranty. It costs $2,500.
12. DeVilbiss Healthcare – Sleep Cube Bilevel ST (humidifier version)
This is a machine that is particularly ideal for patients that require high pressures of up to 25cm H20. It has a flow rounding technology feature that allows it to easily switch between EPAP and IPAP levels. This gives the patient extra comfort as he/she can control the flow rounding, with settings ranging from 1-5. This device costs $2995.
